Cozier and the Selectors' Merry-go-Round

Such is the way of the modern world of international cricket that the West Indies hop right back onto the merry-go-round on Friday for the first of four ODIs in Jamaica. The selectors have come up with a squad that reflects a mental state of confusion, presumably triggered by events in England.

West Indies: Chris Gayle (capt), Denesh Ramdin (wk), Lionel Baker, Darren Bravo, Dwayne Bravo, Sulieman Benn, David Bernard, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Narsingh Deonarine, Runako Morton, Ravi Rampaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Jerome Taylor.

Good to see Bernard and Morton in the squad. I cannot understand how Rampaul has become a specialist one day player and almost a sure pick. I am at a loss to understand the sacking of Simmonds and Sammy. The selectors are making the same mistake they did when picking Pollard on the basis of his four-day performance by picking Darren Bravo on the basis of his four-day performance - which actually declined towards the end of the Tournament. Anyway, I wish young Bravo well.

Ponting on the Axing of Symonds
