Poor Oval Attendance = Wasted CWC 2007 Opportunity

The poor attendance for the second Digicel Test match at the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain has been blamed on the declining standard of West Indies cricket.

Official figures produced by the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board showed that 8,100 tickets were sold for the opening day on Thursday and another 7,800 sold for the second day.

Of that figure, 6,000 were taken up by Queen's Park Cricket Club for their members. The venue has a capacity of approximately 18,000.

This, I submit, is a clear indication of the opportunities wasted by CWC 2007. Ken Gordon and Chris Dehring can talk until the cows come home about the "profit" generated and other quantitative matters. The real benefits are qualitative, the legacy. I do not see any of that!
